Design Research

How do you ensure the product being developed is right for the user being targeted ?
At the start of a program; Nectar typically begins with contextual research to gain an understanding of the user, the context and environment that the product will be used in and how the product fits into the overall framework / system / or story. This perspective is key to ensure that the product being developed fulfills the user’s needs.
This front end research is useful in identifying unanticipated issues inherent the usage of the product and may determine other potential latent needs that can be the nexus of additional products or features which may address other pain points and opportunities not otherwise identified. The insights gained are used to drive the design development such that the product will resonate with the intended user. Research may be used through the development program to define and confirm overall directions as a checkpoint along the way.
A combination of different tools can be used depending on the intent of the research. Qualitative methods may include ethnographic observation, storyboards, user persona, task analysis, user interviews and focus groups.
